2025 Candidate Nomination Package

If you intend to run for office and collect election donations prior to submitting your nomination papers, you must download and fill out the following form.

Notice of Intent

Please submit both your nomination papers and/or Notice of Intent to election@coaldale.ca or in person at the Town Office.

- All candidates must file a disclosure statement, regardless of whether they are self-funded or actually elected, by March 1st, 2026.
- If you intend on collecting campaign contributions or incurring a campaign expense, you must file your nomination papers before you collect those contributions or incur those expenses.
- Disclosure statements require the disclosure of the names and addresses of donors whose contributions exceed $50, as well as information about contributions received, other sources of funding, campaign expenditures, your campaign's surplus or deficit.
- It is an offence to fail to file a disclosure statement. Candidates will be levied a late filing fee of $500.
As per the Local Authorities Election Act, there are no limitations on when a candidate may start campaigning. Nevertheless, as per the Town's Land Use Bylaw, there are restrictions on where and how long candidates may place signs and literature.
Political poster signs:
- may only be erected on Sunday, August 24, 2025, or later.
- must be removed by Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
- shall not be posted within the property boundaries of any existing Town owned land or facility or any sidewalks or road right of way adjacent to Town owned land or facilities;
- may be posted on boulevards and road rights of way adjoining parks and playing fields;
- shall be a minimum of 3 m from any road access and a minimum of 5 m from any intersection.
- shall not exceed 1.1 m2 in area, 1.2 m in height, and must be self supporting;
- cannot emit sound, use video features or be illuminated;
- shall be maintained in a condition that is neat and shall not be unsightly or dangerous;
- shall not interfere with or be confused with a traffic control device; and
- shall not interfere with the safe and orderly movement of pedestrians or vehicles, or restrict the sight lines for pedestrians or motorists.

Important Dates

- Wednesday, January 1, 2025, to Monday, September 22, 2025.
- Monday, September 22, 2025, at 12:00pm
- Thursday, October 9, 2025;
- Saturday, October 11, 2025;
- Tuesday, October 14, 2025; and
- Saturday, October 18, 2025.
- Monday, October 20, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. located at the Sunny South Lodge, 1112 – 20th Avenue.
  This service is provided for residents of Sunny South Lodge only.
- For those electors who cannot make it to the polling station due to physical illness or injury, voting options are available as requested, and pre-scheduled during the hours of the Advance Voting days of October 9, 11, 14, 18, 2025.
- Monday, October 20, 2025.

Voting Locations

On Election Day (Monday, October 20, 2025), voting will take place at the Coaldale Community Centre from 10:00am to 8:00pm.

Advance voting will also take place at the Coaldale Community Centre, but from 2:00pm-8:00pm, on the following days:

Thursday, October 9, 2025;
Saturday, October 11, 2025;
Tuesday, October 14, 2025; and
Saturday, October 18, 2025.

What You Need to Vote

To vote in the 2025 General Municipal Election, you must first go to the Elections Alberta website and register to vote. Click on the button below to register now.

Register to Vote

You are eligible to vote if you can provide authorized identification which shows that you are:

at least 18 years of age;
a Canadian citizen; and
a permanent resident of Coaldale;

Before you vote, you must sign an elector register stating that you meet these qualifications. This form will be provided to you at the Coaldale Community Centre; however, you can also fill out this form in advance and bring it with you.

To vote, you must bring one piece of ID that includes your name and current address. Photo ID is not required.
Accepted forms of ID include:
- Alberta identification cards;
- utility bills;
- bank or credit card statements or personal cheques;
- driver's licenses;
- proof of vehicle ownership (registration or insurance certificates);
- government cheques or cheque stubs;
- income or property tax assessment notices;
- insurance policy or coverage cards;
- letters from a public curator, public guardian, or public trustee;
- pension plan statements of benefits, contribution, or participation;
- residential lease or mortgage statements; and
- statements of government benefits including such as employment insurance or old-age security, and disability support etc.
In place of ID, voters can submit the following types of attestation of residence:
- by landlord; and
- by supportive living facility;
As a last resort, another voter may vouch for your address, providing that you have another piece of ID that verifies your identity.
