What is Intro to Swim Club?

Intro to Swim Club is an introductory level program for those swimmers interested in competitive swimming. Intro to Swim Club will run from June 2 to August 29. All four competitive strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly) will be taught as swimmers are ready, as well as technical elements of racing (starts and turns). Swimmers will have the opportunity to compete in the Southern Alberta Summer Games swim meet at Taber on July 4 & 5.

Who is eligible?

Intro to Swim Club will be open to kids between the ages of 6 and 18. To qualify, participants must complete the pre-requisites outlined in the tier summary below. The Head Coach is ultimately responsible for determining whether a participant is eligible to participate in Intro to Swim Club, as well as which tier they are eligible to participate in.

Q&A

What if I’m an advanced swimmer?

Although the intent of this program is to introduce swimmers to competitive swimming, our goal is to ensure that each swimmer feels that they have improved by the end of the season.

Can I register late?

Yes, you can register any time before July 15, 2025, but the program fee must be paid in full regardless of when you choose to register.

Can I watch my child practice from the pool deck?

You may watch from along the East wall of the greater pool deck but are not permitted on the immediate deck surrounding the pool. Parents are also not permitted to interact with the coaches during practice. If you wish to discuss your child’s performance, please make time before or after practice to talk to their coach.

How can I get involved?

To create a sanctioned swim club, the Town of Coaldale will require the formation of a volunteer board. If you’re interested in being involved, please contact our Community Services Coordinator, Kaitlyn Davis at kaitlyn.davis@coaldale.ca or 403-345-1324.

What does it cost and what does my child need for the swim meet?

All fees, including splash fees for the Southern Alberta Summer Games swim meet are included in the Tier summary above. Swimmers will also need:

  • Racing swimsuit, goggles and swim cap.
  • Warm clothes (sweatpants, sweaters, t-shirts, shoes, hat, etc..). Don’t bring any designer clothes or any valuables.
  • Two or three towels to keep warm, dry and sometimes for use as shade.
  • Sunglasses & sunscreen.
  • Water, snacks and lunch.
  • Games, books or cards to pass the time. Label all belongings.

Note: parents are not allowed poolside during a meet as there are many officials and swimmers and this may cause an interference. Parents can become an official timer if interested.

What is your refund policy?

Regardless of when a swimmer joins Intro to Swim Club, they will be entitled to a 1-week trial period to allow both the swimmer and the coach to determine whether the program is a good fit. If either the swimmer or coach determines that swim club is NOT a good fit within the 1-week trial period, a full refund will be issued. Swimmers can register at any point in the season until July 15, however, the program fee will remain the same regardless of when a swimmer registers. Should registrations be insufficient and intro to swim club is cancelled, a full refund will be issued.
