The Town is pleased to announce that the Summer Splash Bus program will be up and running by Monday, July 29th. This program will provide a daily shuttle service to and from the Village of Stirling pool, complete with Town of Coaldale lifeguards acting as chaperone's to ensure the safety of all minor passengers. The shuttle service will be provided at no cost; users of the shuttle will simply need to pay to access the facility. Rates for access to the Stirling pool are $5 for children 17 and younger, $6 for adults. The shuttle can accommodate 40 minors, along with space for up to 20 accompanying adults, and the Town lifeguards. Registration will take place daily at the Coaldale Pool parking lot beginning at 12:00pm, with the shuttle departing at 1:00pm and arriving back in Coaldale at approximately 4:30pm.
The Stirling pool is a fully enclosed, fully supervised pool facility that includes shallow areas for new swimmers and younger children, deeper areas including a diving board, and a water slide. The facility has other features, like change rooms and showers, in line with what was available in Coaldale. The commute takes approximately 25 minutes, meaning shuttle users should expect about 2.5 hours of fun in the sun. In the event of inclement weather, the bus will be available to return early.

Previous Coaldale Swimming Pool updates

Coaldale, AB: On July 13, the mechanical system of the Coaldale Swimming Pool experienced a critical failure involving a crack to its filtration system, which continues to be investigated by Town of Coaldale staff.
During routine inspections of the pool, Town of Coaldale staff discovered the crack and were able to close the pool to prevent further damage to the facility’s mechanical system.
Crews attempted to repair the filter with the assistance of external resources but discovered that this aspect of the pool’s mechanical system was past the point of what a spot repair could provide. It has been determined that a new filtration system is required in order to commence pool operations.
Town staff are working diligently to find a qualified contractor to assist with replacing the filtration system in a timely manner.
At this stage, it is not clear when the Town will be able to reopen the pool for the 2019 season.
Reopening the pool for the 2019 season will be dependant on:
- The availability of contractors and required parts;
- Alberta Health Services’ approval for a new filtration system that will then be retrofitted to operate within the pool’s current mechanical system, which was constructed in the 1970s;
- Estimated repair cost.
Regrettably, the Coaldale Pool will be closed until at least July 30, 2019. A more definitive timeline and plan of action will be provided to the public as soon as all information becomes available.
In the interim:
- Coaldale Pool Lifeguards have been redeployed to assist Town staff with other duties throughout Coaldale;
- Those enrolled in swimming lessons from July 15-29, 2019 will be contacted directly to reschedule or arrange for a refund.
As always, the security and safety of our residents are our priority. The Town of Coaldale realizes the Coaldale Swimming Pool is a source of enjoyment for many, and is deeply sorry for the disappointment and inconvenience this situation has caused.
As more information becomes available, updates will be provided through the Town’s website (www.coaldale.ca) and Social Media channels. For additional information, please contact the Town Office at 403-345-1300.
- Depending on the ultimate length of time the pool is closed for, the Town will look into some type of reimbursement formula for season swim passes.
