As part of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to support infrastructure projects that drive economic growth, the Town of Coaldale will receive $525,045 in grant funding for a potable water reservoir engineering project and $544,600 in grant funding for an at-grade pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Highway 3 & Land O’ Lakes Drive.

On Tuesday, April 18, MLA Grant Hunter held a press conference at Civic Square in downtown Coaldale to announce the funding. “This government recognizes the importance of investing in infrastructure projects that create jobs and strengthen communities, while also ensuring a high quality of life for Alberta’s residents,” said MLA Hunter. “With McCain's recent announcement of a $600 million expansion to its Lethbridge County facility, there is a need to expand the water infrastructure around Coaldale. A new potable water reservoir will increase the capacity and reliability of the Town's water supply system, ensuring that the residents of Coaldale have access to a robust water infrastructure as their town grows,” explained Hunter. “Southern Alberta and Coaldale are experiencing a surge in investment and economic growth, and our government is committed to supporting that growth.”

"On behalf of Coaldale Town Council, I want to thank MLA Hunter for supporting these projects and for helping our Town secure the grant funding necessary to make them possible. Building a new potable water reservoir and pump station is vital not only to keeping up with Coaldale's growth rate, but also, to ensuring that we have sufficient storage capacity for both fire protection and our ability to sustain pressure throughout our water distribution system,” said Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn. “We're also incredibly thankful to have received funding for the construction of an at-grade pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Highway 3 & Land O' Lakes Drive. This project will provide a central connection point from the south side of Coaldale to the new multi-use recreation centre and high school while at the same time improving pedestrian safety.”
