If elected Mayor, my primary mission will be to re-establish and maintain positive relationships between Town Council and administration and residents, business people and community groups.
Born in Taber and raised in Coaldale, I am youngest of 18 siblings and enjoy spending time with my 3 children and 6 wonderful grandchildren. I am retired and former co-owner of Van Rijn Electric, a business my brother, Hank, and I had for 35 years.
I have always been committed to Coaldale by volunteering to help make it a stronger community which has given me much satisfaction. I have volunteered for 33 years as an active firefighter, including 21 years as Deputy Fire Chief and 27 years as an EMT for Coaldale & District Emergency Services.
I have also been promoting Coaldale businesses through the Coaldale Chamber of Commerce for the past 35 years, where I currently serve as VP.
As an active member of the Coaldale Kinsmen for 37 years, I have helped raise over $3 million for Town projects such as Coaldale Community Centre, Kin Picnic Shelter, Skate Board Park, Spray Park, Cottonwood Estates Kinship Park and recently Eastview & Mountain Bike Parks.
My lifelong relationships with Coaldale residents combined with my experience as a small business owner, volunteer and community builder will be an asset helping bring people together, making our town an even better community to live, work and enjoy.
