The night sky with its thousands of sparkling lights is something that not everyone in the world is lucky enough to experience. Each evening in Coaldale when the sun sets and there is no cloud cover, nature provides us with an extraordinary light show.
Depending on the date, we are able to see several of the planets in our Solar System with the naked eye.
In March, try to find:
Mercury – rises shortly before sunrise and is very close to the horizon; difficult to see
Venus – the brightest planet in the west sky just after sunset
Mars – best seen in the hours just before sunrise
Jupiter – best seen in the hours just before sunrise
Saturn – best seen in the hours just before sunrise
Uranus - best seen in the hours just after sunset. Bring binoculars as difficult to see.
Neptune – very close to the sun and extremely hard to see.
