The Town of Coaldale has received a $23,100 grant through the Government of Alberta’s Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program.

Administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC), this grant funding will enable the replacement of outdated fluorescent lighting in the Coaldale Public Library with new, energy-efficient LED fixtures.

The new lighting system will not only enhance the overall ambiance of the library but will also contribute to significant energy savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the Town’s commitment to sustainability and cost-effective facility management. The total cost of the lighting upgrade is approximately $38,000, meaning that the grant will cover a substantial portion of the expenses.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will allow us to make an impactful improvement to our library,” said Town of Coaldale Mayor, Jack Van Rijn. “These upgrades will create a brighter, more energy-efficient space for our community while also lowering our operational costs. It’s a win-win for both the environment and our residents.”

Founded in 2009 as a collaborative initiative of Alberta Municipalities, Rural Municipalities of Alberta and the Government of Alberta, the MCCAC delivers funding, technical assistance, and education to help Alberta municipalities and community related organizations advance actions that lower energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve climate resilience. Funding for the CEC program is provided by the Government of Alberta.
