UPDATE: Municipal Governance during the COVID-19 Outbreak
The Municipal Government Act (MGA) governs how municipalities operate and is one of the most significant and far-reaching statutes in Alberta. While the MGA provides the framework for municipalities to work within, the COVID-19 outbreak has presented unique operational challenges for local government operations. In response, Alberta Municipal Affairs continues to explore and implement various measures to support municipalities.
As of January 2021, Council Meetings are conducted at either the HUB, 2107 - 13th Street, or via ZOOM, dependent on the current COVID-19 restrictions and conditions. Note that these meetings are closed to the public until further notice but available via livestream at https://tinyurl.com/TownCouncilLivestream.
Town Council meets the second and fourth Monday of each month. Exceptions are July, August and December when Council only meets once during those months. Strategic Planning meetings are held within the first 3 months of the calendar year – dates to be announced.
Should the Council meeting fall on a statutory holiday, the meeting is moved to a Tuesday.
As of February 2020, the Council meeting time is 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at 1920-17 Street.
