On Friday, June 19, members of Coaldale Town Council were joined by the Hon. Grant Hunter, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas and Lethbridge County Reeve, Tory Campbell, for a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the completion of the Town’s new potable water reservoir and pump station.
Identified as a key priority in the Town’s 2019 Infrastructure Master Plan, the project represents one of the most important water infrastructure investments in Coaldale’s history. With the new reservoir and pump station now complete, the Town’s potable water storage capacity has increased from approximately 3,400 cubic metres to 8,300 cubic metres, helping ensure the community can meet anticipated water demand and fire flow requirements over the next 25 years.
The Government of Alberta provided significant support for the project, including $525,045 in grant funding for engineering and design in 2023, followed by an additional $4.5 million for construction in 2024. The total projected cost of the project was just over $13 million.

Grant Hunter, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas and MLA for Taber-Warner. “Alberta’s government is proud to support Coaldale with the infrastructure it needs to grow, ensuring reliable water services for families, businesses and a thriving community.”
“Completing this project is a major milestone for Coaldale,” said Town of Coaldale Mayor, Jack Van Rijn. “As our community continues to grow, it is critical that our infrastructure keeps pace. This new reservoir and pump station more than doubles the Town’s potable water storage capacity and puts Coaldale in a much stronger position to support future residential, commercial, and industrial development. The new reservoir and pump station is located west of Coaldale near the corner of 30th Street and 18th Avenue. Construction began in August 2024 and was carried out by Ward Bros. Construction, with engineering support from MPE Engineering.
