Coaldale’s Country Christmas Night of Lights Parade Canceled in 2021

Date

Winter Walk-in-the-Park still scheduled to take place November 20 to December 29

--

The Town of Coaldale is extremely saddened to announce that the 2021 Country Christmas Night of Lights Parade Event has been cancelled. Current Alberta Health Service (AHS) restrictions mandate that events that are fully outdoors do not have a capacity limit, however visitors must maintain 2 metres of social distancing at all times.

Historically, the event has attracted 2000-3000 people along the parade route, and given the resources available, the Town would not be able to successfully enforce the 2-metre social distancing that would be required by AHS.

“We’ve exhausted every opportunity to try and find an alternative way to deliver the event for the community,” said Russ Tanner, Coaldale’s Director of Recreation and Community Services. “However, under the recommendation of our AHS inspector and through discussion with Town Council we have decided not to host the parade once again this year. While this is unfortunately the case for many other communities navigating covid-19 restrictions at this time, Coaldale will be able to offer a number of other festive activities for the community to enjoy this winter in lieu of the parade.”

Coaldale’s Winter Walk-in-the-Park event will return for its 3rd year at the Kin Picnic Shelter Park. This year's theme is "In Search of the Gem of the West". Families can take a leisurely stroll through the park to search for all the “gems” – magical displays designed by community groups, organizations, businesses and individuals.

Opening night for the Winter Walk-in-the-Park is Saturday, November 20. The Kin Picnic Shelter Park will be open to the community every Saturday and Wednesday between 5:30pm and 8:30pm until December 29, excluding December 25. However, the light displays will come on every evening until Monday, January 10.

“The Winter Walk-in-the-Park will provide an opportunity for a nice evening for families to stroll through the park and enjoy the scenery and display,” said Cindy Hoffman, Manger of Community Services at the Town of Coaldale. “The ‘In Search of the Gem of the West’ theme adds an element of exploration and storytelling so everyone can find a way to enjoy the winter season.”
