Coaldale has been Councillor Jacen Abrey’s home since 1982 which is when he first met his wife Kim. They have been married for 34 years and have four lovely daughters, Kandace, Darcee, Raegan and Kaci.
Coaldale is currently home to three generations of Jacen’s family and he hopes to add many more.
During his time in Coaldale he has been actively involved in recreation as a baseball and soccer coach. He joined the Coaldale and District Emergency Services at the age of 18 and has been an active member of the fire service for over 33 years.
In 2000, Jacen and his family left Coaldale so he could pursue his career as Emergency Services Coordinator for Fire, Ambulance and Municipal enforcement. Seven years later, they were able to return home after he accepted a position with the Provincial Government’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs.
For over 33 years he has been committed to emergency services throughout the province, working the Slave Lake Fire in 2011, the Southern Alberta Wildland Fires in 2011 and 2012 and the Southern Alberta Floods in 2013, Fort McMurray fire in 2016 and most recently the Kenow “Waterton” Fire.
He received his 12-year service medal and his 20-year Exemplary Service Medal for Fire. He was also honored with the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal for his service in the firefighting industry.
Jacen brings to council an extensive background in both municipal, provincial and federal government. He has dedicated and committed himself to serving as a town councillor in Coaldale in this, his first term on council.
In the past 4 years on council I have served the Town with the values I live by – honesty, transparency and integrity.
Councillor Abrey will serve as Coaldale’s Deputy Mayor from now until the organizational meeting in October 2019.
