On Friday, May 23rd, the Town of Coaldale held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the official start of a major skatepark revitalization project.

The event brought together MLA Grant Hunter, members of Coaldale Town Council, and representatives from the Kinsmen Club of Coaldale, who together presented a series of ceremonial cheques highlighting the significant investment and collaborative spirit behind the project:

  • $391,715.10 from the Government of Alberta;
    $400,000 from the Town of Coaldale; and
    $400,000 from the Kinsmen Club of Coaldale.

Together, these funds will allow the $1.2 million project to move forward as envisioned, with custom concrete features shaped to the natural landscape, accessible design elements, and future connectivity to new residential areas through an integrated pathway network.

“This project is a testament to what we can accomplish when local and provincial partnerships come together with a shared vision,” said Town of Coaldale Mayor, Jack Van Rijn. “Thanks to the leadership of MLA Grant Hunter, the support of the Government of Alberta, and the tireless commitment of the Kinsmen Club of Coaldale, our youth will soon have an upgraded space to stay active, build community, and enjoy their passion for skateboarding and BMXing.”

“The Government of Alberta is proud to invest in grassroots initiatives that foster active lifestyles and community engagement”, said MLA Grant Hunter, Parliamentary Secretary for Agrifood Development. “The Coaldale Skatepark Revitalization Project will have a lasting impact on the youth and families of Coaldale, and I commend everyone involved for making it happen.”
Designed by renowned firm New Line Skateparks, the upgraded skatepark will feature modern concrete structures, an elevated platform that can serve as a performance stage, and embedded cultural design elements that honour the Town’s heritage. Once complete, the upgraded skatepark will provide a modern, accessible, and multi-functional space for users of all ages and skill levels—doubling as both a recreational facility and a community gathering space.
