Coaldale has been Councillor Jacen Abrey’s home since 1982 which is when he first met his wife Kim. They have been married for 31 years and have four lovely daughters, Kandace, Darcee, Raegan and Kaci.
Coaldale is currently home to four generations of Jacen’s family and he hopes to add many more.
During his time in Coaldale he has been actively involved in recreation as a baseball and soccer coach. He joined the Coaldale and District Emergency Services at the age of 18 and has been an active member of the fire service for over 28 years.
In 2000, Jacen and his family left Coaldale so he could pursue his career as Emergency Services Coordinator for Fire, Ambulance and Municipal enforcement. Seven years later, they were able to return home after he accepted a position with the Provincial Government’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs. He is currently the Assistant Fire Commissioner for the Province of Alberta.
For over 31 years he has been committed to emergency services throughout the province, working the Slave Lake Fire in 2011, the Southern Alberta Wildland Fires in 2011 and 2012 and the Southern Alberta Floods in 2013.
He received his 12-year service medal and his 20-year Exemplary Service Medal for Fire. He was also honoured with the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal for his service in the fire fighting industry.
Jacen brings to council an extensive background in both municipal and provincial government. He has dedicated and committed himself to serving as a town councillor in Coaldale in this, his first term on council.
