Coaldale is Doreen Lloyd’s birthplace and has always been her home. She have been married to Duncan Lloyd for 49 years. They have two sons, both graduated with mechanical engineers degrees from U of A. Both are married & they are lucky to be blessed with 5 grandchildren.
She attended K -12 in Coaldale and Business College in Lethbridge. Her first job was for a firm of accountants followed by Schwartz insurance agencies, in the accounting dept.
She was always actively involved in school councils and in 1989 was elected for three terms, as a School trustee in the County of Lethbridge, which later became Palliser Regional Schools.
In 1995 she began her career in Real Estate which she enjoyed for 21 years. During that time she was also very involved in the Chamber of Commerce, serving several terms as President.
As chair of the Gem of the West the museum took on a project to capture the history of the Coaldale Hospitals. This resulted in the production of an amazing book of memories, pictures and History about the Town of Coaldale.
After her retirement in 2016, she continued to focus on Communities in Bloom. The group’s efforts paid off when they received the National Award for the “Canada 150” project. The main area was the Maple Leaf, but they also included many other things, to combine what the committee and town did for “Canada 150”. She believes Coaldale is a great Community and her goal is to work hard to keep it that way.
