First elected in 2007, Councillor Chapman is no stranger to municipal politics. Alberta provincial politics is also a great interest, and he has been following it closely for almost 30 years! In fact, it was a source of Bill’s research and study at the University of Lethbridge. Canadian federal politics has been an active concentration in his overall focus.
Raised in Three Hills, Alberta, Bill understands the joys and challenges of small-town living. From 1989 to 1995, he served on Town Council in Three Hills. It was there that Bill became acquainted with many aspects of municipal government. The Three Hills and District Chamber of Commerce recognized Bill and his wife Deb as “Volunteers of the Year”, in 1993.
Residents of Coaldale since 1997, and a long-term employee at Lethbridge Transit, Bill and Deb have both embraced many opportunities to serve in their church and community.
In 2001, he translated his passion for politics into a Degree in Political Science from the University of Lethbridge. While at University, Bill served on the Board of Governors and the Senate. Over the past twenty years, Bill has participated in various Committees and volunteer activities, including Chair of the Mural Committee, and Chair of Coaldale’s Centennial Celebrations Committee which produced the Tower Clock along Main Street. Central to their passion for building our community, Bill is an active member on the Coaldale and District Chamber of Commerce.
Community clubs provide further contact and social interaction. Bill has been a member of Toastmasters since 1996, and also the Rotary Club of Coaldale since 2001.
Bill’s wife Deb is active on a couple Boards including the Rehoboth Christian Ministries, and the Coaldale Community Wellness Association.
For 12 years, Bill sat on the board of the Canadian Mental Health Association. As well, for four years he served as a government appointee to a quasi-judicial Appeal Panel for AISH, both in Lethbridge.
Transportation has always been Bill’s passion, and since being appointed to the Highway 3 Twinning Development Association, he serves as its President, now for over two years. Bill is appointed to the Coaldale Handi Ride Association.
In his spare time Bill enjoys playing soccer, volunteering, boating, travelling and driving his motorbike and Corvette.
