The Gem of the West Museum Arts and Culture Committee and the Town of Coaldale are partnering to host Centennial Fall Friday Featuring the Coaldale Centennial Mosaic Community Art Project – a project that has been made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta.

We have been working with Mosaic Canada Murals who have consulted with us and have designed a mural that defines Coaldale’s history and its citizens (the design will remain a secret until after the mural is complete). The mural is made up of over 600 individual 4” x 4” aluminum tiles that when positioned together, create a large 8’ x 12’ work of art that will depict Coaldale and will be a lasting legacy of Coaldale’s 100th Anniversary. Each individual tile will be painted by a member of the community and can be a toddler’s scribbles to professional artwork. Visit canada150mosaic.com to see examples of some of the amazing mosaics from other Canadian towns and cities.
