Coaldale RCMP – Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) attending detachment
Coaldale, Alberta – This afternoon, at approximately 2:00 P.M., a member of the public attended the Coaldale RCMP Municipal Detachment and advised that they had found a single stick of dynamite during the course of cleaning up their property and wanted the RCMP to dispose of it.
The stick of dynamite has been left in place outside of the detachment building and the RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) from Edmonton is on its way to the location to assess the situation and dispose of the dynamite. As a precaution, the Coaldale Municipal RCMP Detachment and some surrounding businesses for a one block radius have been evacuated. Police have cordoned off the area while awaiting the arrival of EDU.
No one has been injured in this matter and precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the public and police. The RCMP is asking that the public do not attend the Coaldale Municipal RCMP Detachment or anywhere within a one block radius of the detachment. In the meantime, traffic is asked to detour around the area as it is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Additional details will be provided as they become available and an update will be provided.
