It’s truly an honour to serve Coaldale

I hope it has been clear since the beginning of Talk of the Town that the Mayor’s Column represents not just my views but those of the entire Town Council. This column is a means of communicating our collective thoughts on Town matters that affect you, as well as a forum for us to recognize good work, urge responsible action or just send along best wishes.

I point this out because his month’s column will be the last before the Alberta Municipal Election on Oct. 21.  That means, of course, that depending on the outcome of the election, some of us might not be on council when the next issue of Talk of the Town comes out.

Whatever the outcome of the election, Council would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Coaldale for their trust and for the opportunity to serve as decision-makers on their behalf. It’s a great responsibility and one that’s not taken, or given, lightly.

Over the past three years, Coaldale has seen growth and improvement in many areas. There have been opportunities and there have been challenges as well. Our Town is in a unique situation due to our size, location and proximity to Lethbridge, all of which place unique demands on those making decisions about the future. We hope that we have had a positive impact on the lives of the people of Coaldale over the past three years, and that we have fairly represented their values in our decision-making.

We need to thank the employees and managers of the Town of Coaldale for their invaluable work in executing the decisions we have made and making sure we, as council, are well-informed and understand the issues that are so important to the Town. Often these folks are out of the spotlight, doing the tough jobs that aren’t high-profile but are absolutely essential to the well being of the people of Coaldale. We value each and every one of you and the contribution you make to the quality of life in our hometown.

Finally, a big thank-you to all the great people who volunteer their time, energy, talents, expertise and physical labour to the many projects and organizations that make Coaldale such a wonderful place to live. Like you all, we love this Town and want to see it continue to grow and prosper.
