Local government elections are held every three
years under the authority of the Local
Authorities Election Act. The Act may be accessed on the Alberta Municipal Affairs website

Important dates to know:
Nomination Day is Monday,
September 20, 2010 (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
Election Day is Monday,
October 18, 2010 (10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)
Qualification of Candidates (Section 21(1) of
the Local Authorities Election Act)
You are qualified to be nominated
as a candidate in any election under this Act if on nomination day the person:
(a)
is eligible to vote in that election,
(b) has been a resident of the local
jurisdiction and the ward, if any, for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding
nomination day, and
(c)
is not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.

Nomination Packages:
Nomination
Packages are available in electronic format from coaldale.ca or in paper format
from the Town Office, 1920 – 17 Street, Monday – Friday, hours 9:00 a.m. to
4:30 p.m.
A candidate
requires at least five (5) eligible electors to sign their Nomination Paper. A
person who signs the Candidate's Nomination
Papers must be a resident in the local jurisdiction on the date of signing the
nomination papers, a Canadian Citizen and at least 18 years of age.
Nomination Papers:
Nomination papers for Mayor and
Councillors will only be accepted between the hours of 10:00 am and 12:00 noon
at the Council Chambers, Town Office, 1920 – 17 Street.
Election Sign Guidelines
Pursuant to Land Use
Bylaw 545-P-04-05 election signage does not require a development permit
provided it is removed within 14 days after the completion of the relevant
election or plebiscite.

Voter Information:
You are
eligible to vote in the Town of Coaldale municipal election if you are:
·18
years of age;
·A
Canadian citizen;
·Have
resided in Alberta at least 6 months prior to election day; and
·Is resident of
the Town on election day.
There is no
Voter’s List, however, all voters must sign the voting register stating that
they meet these qualifications before they will be given a ballot.
