Town donates to Canadian Red Cross donation drive

On January 30, 2019, the Town of Coaldale received information from a concerned resident about individuals that were going door to door looking for donations on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross. The Town made contact with the Canadian Red Cross to verify that the Canadian Red Cross supported the donation campaign that was occurring. After initially making contact with the Canadian Red Cross, it was determined that the campaign was not legitimate. However, the RCMP were able to locate the representatives going from door to door, soliciting donations and determine that they were acting on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross. After further discussions between the Town of Coaldale and the Canadian Red Cross, it was discovered that it was a legitimate donation campaign and that the initial information that the Town received from the Red Cross indicating that it was not a supported campaign was inaccurate. The Town of Coaldale and the Canadian Red Cross are working together to ensure that the Town is aware of future campaigns to prevent further confusion. The Town of Coaldale supports the work that the Red Cross is trying to accomplish and to assist them in achieving these efforts is making a $500 donation.
Penny Balfour, on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross accepts the donation from Clayton Rutberg, Deputy Fire Chief of Public Safety, Town of Coaldale.
